Board of Directors

President: Janette Douglas
Janette Douglas has worked in the dental field for over 30 years. She has been in her current position  as Manager of TenderCare Dental in Gladstone since 1988. She has been instrumental in taking  the practice successfully through many transitions.
A member of ODEA since 2003, Jan served on the Board of Directors as well as holding the  position of Membership Chair from 2003 to 2007. Her belief in the value of ODEA and her desire  to help get the information, education, and networking opportunities to outlying areas of Oregon  have brought her back to serve on the Board once again. Her family is her passion and she loves  to travel.

  Treasurer: Judy Brink
Judy Brink has been in the dental field for over 17 years. She entered the field as a receptionist for a general practice in Richland Washington. After moving back to Oregon, Judy resumed her dental career and is currently the Office Administrator for a general practice in Springfield.

Judy was one of the founders of ODEA in 1996, desiring to help improve the quality of educational opportunities for dental administrative staff as well as to create a network for communication with other administrators and dental professionals.

Secretary: Rachel Smith
Rachel was born and raised in Willamette Valley. She enjoys camping, fishing and outdoor activities with her husband of 30 years. Rachel also has 3 grown children. She graduated from Chemeketa Community College Dental Assisting program and worked in a general dental office for 3 years as dental assistant and front desk. For the last 28 years Rachel has worked as Office Manager for a Pediatric Dental Office in Salem Oregon. Dr. Tricia Ray took over the practice in 2009. Rachel has been involved with ODEA since 2009 and finds the interactive meetings to be informative and very valuable for the practice. About her new appointment to the board Rachel says, "I'm excited to be more involved in this association!"

Director: Grace Powell
Grace Powell has worked in the dental field for 28 years. She began her career as a Registered Dental Assistant in Sacramento, California and has since been involved with several organizations: Salem Dental Assisting Study Club, Capitol City Dental Association (as president), and she also taught for 3 years as an adjunct instructor for Chemeketa Community College Dental Assisting Program, teaching Dental Practice Management and Expanded Functions. Currently, Grace is the Office Manager for the Oregon Tech Dental Hygiene Clinic, a Bachelor Degree Program through Oregon Institute of Technology.  Oregon Tech is located on the Salem Chemeketa Community College campus, and provides dental hygiene services to the general public at a reduced cost.

Grace’s first impression of the ODEA was very positive! The support system provided by meeting with other Dental Practice Administrators is one of the main reasons Grace joined the ODEA, and chose to serve as a Board Member.  Grace states that the value of belonging to a professional organization goes well beyond the Study Club meetings!  She has found that the ODEA has given her the confidence to tackle unique challenges in her day-to-day work.

Associate Director: Susan Watson
Susan is currently the supervisor of the Dental Professional Relations department at ODS. Prior to becoming the supervisor of this department, she spent five years as the service representative. She had previously worked at ODS in their claims department from 1990-1996. Taking 10 years off to become a stay-at-home mother, Susan decided to get back into the workforce in 2006 and was happy to accept her position with ODS.
During her “time off” she homeschooled her children, worked a home based business as an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics and also spent a small amount of time as a Clinique Skin Care Advisor. All of this “face” time has helped Susan to serve the dental community as their service representative by providing education and a helping hand whenever needed. Even though Susan has now supervised the Dental Professional Relations department for the past three years, she continues to have lasting business relationships with many members of the ODEA.

Susan is excited to be a part of the ODEA and has this to say about the association, “I have had the pleasure of working closely with many members of the ODEA during my daily business routine and have found each and every one to be some of the sharpest individuals around. The ODEA is an asset for these business professionals as it provides valuable interactions and skills to its members.”
